Small-batch herbal products

Equinox Botanical Sanctuary is home to Equinox Botanicals, an herbal products business and working herb farm. As the owner of this ecologically conscious company, Lonnie continues the legacy of her stepfather, renowned herbalist and woodsman Paul Strauss, crafting herbal remedies from plants lovingly grown in the gardens and forests

Sustainability, integrity, and respect for the natural world

Founded by Paul in the mid-1970s with an effective healing salve, Equinox Botanicals has evolved into a trusted maker of small-batch herbal products rooted in sustainability, integrity, and respect for the natural world. Located in southeast Ohio’s “Appalachia’s herb basket,” the sanctuary is home to thriving stands of native medicinal herbs and serves as a model of forest restoration and conservation—as the first Model Botanical Sanctuary in the United Plant Savers Botanical Sanctuary Network.

Our Commitment

Through forest farming, the Equinox team cultivates at-risk species such as goldenseal, ginseng, and black cohosh in their native woodland habitats, helping ensure the resilience of wild plant populations. All herbs used in the company’s products are organically grown or ethically wild-harvested, handcrafted in small batches using solar power and gravity-fed spring water, and packaged in recyclable materials. Lonnie and her team uphold the highest standards of quality, stewardship, and environmental responsibility—carrying forward a decades-long commitment to living and working in harmony with the land that sustains us.
